Day 1: Fes to Merzouga
After breakfast depart from Fes in the morning and head southeast towards Merzouga, nestled on the edge of the Sahara Desert. In the way, pass through the Middle Atlas Mountains, marveling at the scenic landscapes and charming Berber villages. Stop for lunch in Midelt, known for its apple orchards, before continuing your journey to Merzouga. Upon arrival, embark on a camel trek into the majestic sand dunes of Erg Chebbi and witness a breathtaking desert sunset. Spend the night in a traditional desert camp under the starlit sky.
Day 2: Merzouga Exploration
Wake up early to catch the magical sunrise over the Sahara Desert. After breakfast, explore the dunes of Erg Chebbi on foot or by camelback, soaking in the serene beauty of the desert landscape. Visit nearby nomadic settlements to learn about Berber culture and traditions. In the afternoon, return to your desert camp for lunch and some leisure time to relax or partake in optional activities such as sandboarding or quad biking. As night falls, enjoy a traditional Berber dinner around the campfire while being serenaded by local musicians.
Day 3: Merzouga to Ouarzazate
Set out the desert as you journey westward towards Ouarzazate, known as the "Gateway to the Sahara" and the filming location for many Hollywood movies. Along the way, pass through stunning desert scenery, including the dramatic Todra Gorge with its towering cliffs. Stop in Tinghir to explore the oasis town and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Continue your drive to Ouarzazate, where you can visit the impressive Kasbah Taourirt and perhaps take a guided tour of the Atlas Studios, one of the largest film studios in Africa.
Day 4: Ouarzazate to Marrakech
After breakfast, depart from Ouarzazate and travel through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Stop at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, a well-preserved kasbah that has been featured in numerous films and TV shows. Continue your journey to Marrakech, where you'll arrive in the late afternoon. Spend the evening exploring Marrakech's vibrant medina, sampling local delicacies, and soaking up the lively atmosphere of Djemaa el-Fna square.
